WebAlt+Enter is not a universal windows shortcut, games have to code in logic to support it. Also, games can disable the Windows key (since that will minimize a fullscreen game if you hit it by accident). It sounds like the game deliberately disables task switching because it isn't supported and it breaks the game (as you saw).
