It is the total number of souls you spent and currently have on you. You can only do multiplayer with players a certain number of Soul memory tiers around you, this number changing depending on some factors.

Getting even 60 sunlight medals in an hour would mean getting summoned immediately every time, AND only taking 60 seconds to kill the boss each time.
