The backer should be applied so that the finished chinking will adhere to the logs. Otherwise, the chinking may not stick properly and may tear or rip. WebWhen using Perma-Chink log home sealant on full-round log construction, the finished width of the chinking seam should be approximately 1/6 of the log diameter (i.e. if your logs are 15" diameter, the chinking seam should be about 2-1/2 inches wide.) This is very important on log home siding applications.
